校本評核(SBA)要求學生寫出他的意見或讀後感(write comments and personal reflections),考評局言明,閱讀/閱覽/寫作(reading/viewing/writing)不評分。評分的是oral presentation(說話技巧)。不過,若然comments reflections寫得沒有條理、文法錯誤,很難推想學生如何能夠在oral presentation的過程於以下四方面取得高分:

1.          Pronunciation and delivery(發音及流暢度)

2.          Communication strategies(溝通技巧)

3.          Vocabulary and language patterns(用詞及語法)

4.          Ideas and organization(意念及組織)

Occasionally, the author uses figures of speech, such as metaphors and similes, to describe details.

作者(喜歡)用甚麽來做隱喻呢?

例如用natural thingsLove is a rose.)、用物件(The streets were a furnace(熔爐))、用人(Time is a dressmaker specializing in alterations.

所以,你可以寫/說[Name of author] likes to use natural things/non-living things/people in all walks of life to make metaphors

然後,你可以指出作者在書的哪處用過比喻,例如,at the beginning of the novel/in Chapter 3等。(你嫌煩的話,也可以不說明出處。)

你會寫作者比喻的喻意嗎?

例如,Earnest Hemingway(海明威) The Old Man and the Sea老人與海)用這個metaphor寫老人Santiago的眼:Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and were cheerful and undefeated. (老人是這麽的蒼老,但唯有雙眼依舊有着像海水一樣的颜色,既充满了歡愉,也好像是從来沒有被打敗過似的。)

在上段,Hemingway用海水(自然物)隱喻老人的眼,要寫出的是一種不屈的性格(an unyielding character)。

Hemingway 又這樣形容老人舊漁船的帆:The sail was patched with flour sacks and, furled, it looked like the flag of permanent defeat. (老人的船帆上满是用面粉袋做成的補釘,使得帆布綣起來時,好似一面象徵無限敗戰的旗幟。)

在上段,Hemingway用了個明喻:the patched sail(物件)looked like the flag of permanent defeat

讀者如能體會the eyespatched sailcontrast(對比),老人那種不屈的性格就更明顯了。

再用Dan BrownThe Da Vinci Code舉過例,黃色的部分可以按照你在討論甚麽改動:

Occasionally, the author uses figures of speech, such as metaphors and similes, to describe details. [Dan Brown] likes to use [natural things] to make metaphors. For example, [at the beginning of the book], he writes [the attacker’s mountainous silhouette].” The metaphor reveals that [the attacker was a towering man]. In [Chapter 3], a simile is used: “[the imposing façade(宏圍外觀) of the Louvre (羅浮宮)rose like (明喻)a citadel(堡壘)against the Paris sky]”.  Here, [the chilling (驚人的)death of the curator is contrasted with the majesty of Louvre].(簡單說,at beginning of the bookDan Brownattackermountainous silhouette(大山般身體輸廓)這個metaphor來指明attacker很高大。在Chapter 3,他用羅浮宮堡壘般的宏偉外觀(the imposing façade of the Louvre)來反襯羅浮宮內的驚人謀殺案。

上一段的「骨」其實是這樣:

Occasionally, the author uses figures of speech, such as metaphors and similes, to describe details. [Name of author] likes to use [A] to make metaphors. For example, [at the beginning of the novel/可以指出或不指在書的哪處], he writes[B/抄原文].” The metaphor reveals that [C/指出比喻想說明甚麽]. In [Chapter ____/可以指出或不指在書的哪處], a simile is used: [D/抄原文]”. Here [E/指出比喻想說明甚麽]
