You have read a newspaper article about the ten Best Books recommended by the Young Post in 2009.  Write about 250 words on the book which you liked the most in secondary school years and the way it affected you.

Miss Lee was my English teacher in Form 3.  Young, alluring(迷人的), and highly intelligent, she was born of a rich family and teaching was her favorite work as an affectionately caring young woman with a master's degree in education.  She was always compassionate towards her students, especally the naughty ones like me.  (以上各句可應因字數刪減。)She had a wonderful house, which she invited me to visit frequently.  In spring and summer, it was full of flowers, and the rest of the year she scattered bags of lavender(分散着放的薰衣草袋子, a plant with pale purple flowers giving a pleasant smell(令人愉快的味道).  But the best part was the big coffee table in the front room.  Only one object sat on the table: the dictionary.

The dictionary had a wealth of pictures and drawings, a book that challenged the mind and delighted the senses.(留意challenged the mind delighted the senses 的排比結構)

I still remember fondly(深情又輕鬆地) the hours spent looking through the dictionary.  It was too big for me to lift.  I simply sat on the overstuffed couch(加了厚墊的長沙發).  At the end of my visit, I walked away with a head full of new discoveries like groggy(不穩的), “weak and unable to think clearly or walk correctly”; parsimonious(吝嗇的), “excessively sparing or frugal”; tumescent(膨脹或朣起的), ”becoming swollen, swelling (and the example given is a tumescent penis!); resilience(復原力), “an ability to quickly return to a previous good condition”; and tsunami(海嘯), “an extremely large wave caused by movement of the earth under the sea, often caused by an earthquake” (and even the Financial Secretary(財政司司長) talked about the financial tsunami in his budget speech(預算案演辭)). (以上的字例可因應考題的字數規定刪減數目或內容。)

To me, there was something magical about Miss Lee, who was so rich but caring, and her house, where an encyclopedic dictionary take centre stage(留意about的用法。例如This is something great about every good teacher..  During my Form 3 year, I saw friends, classmates, and playmates who visited the house with me – even Miss Lee’s Filipino maid (菲庸)and other teachers – thumbing through (翻看;翻查)the Big Book with looks of awe and reverence(敬畏與崇敬).

The Big Book made me want to know more about words, I worked a part-time job for two months and bought a big, beautifully illustrated dictionary with heavy bold print and a rich leather cover!

Clear away everything else and let the book stand alone – opened to a favourite word – on the coffee table with plenty of good lamps nearby.  This is still what I do several times a month now, as these steps are reminiscent of (令人想起)Miss Lee, who, sadly, was brutally (野蠻地)killed by a car driven by a heartless(狼心的), drunken, and totally irresponsible (完全不負責任的)driver when she was walking on a pavement to school for a Christmas party meeting.
