其餘問this means that

Question 1

Peter Chan is a speaker who, even if you do not agree with his message, causes you to think, “this is an outstanding speaker.” He knows how to use rhetorical devices that touches an internal chord and makes him or her sound eloquent.

According to the paragraph, the author is

A.     disappointed by Peter Chan

B.     envious of Peter Chan

C.     impressed by Peter Chan

D.     happy for Peter Chan

Answer: C

Question 2

The purpose of science is not to analyse or describe but to make useful models of the world.  A model is useful if it allows us to get use out of it.  Use is not confined to predictions of behaviour but also interventions.  For example the use of the model I have described resulted on one occasion in the saving of $300 million.

This means that

A.     The author has invented a model that saved $300 million.

B.     Scientists should describe the world.

C.     Model-making is a purpose of science.

D.     Models should not be used for predictions of behaviour.

Answer: B

Author described 而沒有invented a model,所以A不對。

Question 3

The ice-cold scientists dispute climate computer models that point to the Earth’s warming since 1900 being fuelled by greenhouse emissions.  Their research shows much warming being caused by oceanic cycles in a warm mode rather than the current cold mode.

A.     ceased

B.     decimated

Answer: D
