You have done a very naughty thing. Write it in your diary. (日記一則:你最頑皮的一件事)

Exam Question (2006) (Rewritten) (about 300 words)

Write a diary entry beginning with this sentence: “I woke up this morning and discovered I was eight feet tall.”(日記一則:清早起來發覺自己變成身長八呎)。 

最簡單的說,寫日記可用「Dear Diary,」開頭,然後在下一行繼續寫,寫日記是對tense的考驗。主要用past tense(因為寫的是當日或昨日發生了的事),但寫你的意見或感想時要用present tense;寫你不能實現的願望時(即如果可以如何如何就好了那類)要用subjunctive mood(可參考本站英文文法-條件句(Conditional Sentences

l  You may begin a diary entry with ‘Dear Dairy’.

l  You may put the date in the diary, e.g. 25 December 2009 (This is optional.) 

l  Of course, you should write in the first person pronoun.

l  You may use contractions. 

E.g. I didn’t anticipate the occurrence of the day.

l  You may use slangs.

E.g. I didn’t know what the two men were gabbing about for hours.

l  Tenses

Ø  In writing diary, as you are writing what happened that day, you should generally use the past tenses (simple past, past perfect, past continuous). 

E.g. I had a day off today and paid a visit to my former teacher.

Ø  However, you may need to use the present tense or future tense  when you look back at the day and write about your feelings and opinions.

E.g. I had a day off today and paid a visit to my former teacher.  It is a day that I will never forget.

Ø  You can use subjunctive mood when making wishes (about how you wish your day went) or writing about what you think would make the day better.

Making wishes

E.g. I wish I had told the truth to Grace before she left.

What you think would make the day better

E.g. If I were Eason, I would tell the truth to Aaron, his bosom friend.

l  You can report people’s words in a quotation. 

E.g. “What are you doing up here,” asked Elly.

E.g. Carrie said, “Don’t worry.  We’ll help you out.”

l  You can end your entry with 'bye' or your signature. (optional)
