l   If two statements are closely related, they may be written as one sentence with a semi-colon between them. The semi-colon shows the close relationship between the two statements.  However, please note that it is also correct to write the two statements as two separate sentences.

l   Examples

l   The contestants were ready; the adjudicators were not. (但請注意;The contestants were ready.  The adjudicators were not.

l   The assignment was tough for her; still, she carried it out. (但請注意;The assignment was tough for her.  Still, she carried it out.

l   If your sentence involves (1) lists of things which are separated by internal comma, or (2) long compound phrases, use semi-colons to separate them (or, in case (2), re-write the sentence into two).

l   Examples

l   Those present are Mr. A, a director; Mr. B, a singer-songwriter; and Mr. C, an actor.

l   This duty involves utilizing human resources to accomplish assignments in accordance with safety plans and in an efficient manner; evaluating member performance; and supervising personnel during emergency and nonemergency work periods, according to the following job performance requirements. This duty involves utilizing human resources to accomplish assignments in accordance with safety plans and in an efficient manner. This duty also involves evaluating member performance and supervising personnel during emergency and nonemergency work periods, according to the following job performance requirements. (The above sentence is extracted from an online article.)
