本文分兩部分,第一部分是Useful Phrases and Vocabulary,盡量分類編寫(但不一定做得完美,請諒)。第二部分是Useful Sentences,盡量按輯邏發展編寫(但也不一定做得完美,請諒),請留意一般寫法,書不盡言,言不盡言,只能在一些要點用了粗體。

USEFUL SENTENCES

1.                       Hong Kong’s worst industrial accident in a decade occurred on 13 September 2009, in the International Commerce Centre, a 118-storey waterfront skyscraper when six workers were killed in a platform plunge 2009913日,香港發生最嚴重工業意外,在樓高一百一十八層、位於海傍的環球貿易廣場,一個平台墜下,六名工人喪生。)(留意:這句能寫得長,因為用了同位語a 118-storey waterfront skyscraper再加上when)(留意:以上可以是文章的寫法,但報紙的寫法會把最重要的資料放在前面:Six construction workers were killed yesterday in HK's worst industrial accident in a decade when a platform plunged 20 storeys down a lift shaft inside the International Commerce Centre.

2.                       An explosion at a chemical factory in Fo Tan(火炭) killed 4 people and seriously injures another 10. (火炭化學工廠發生爆炸,四死十傷)

3.                       Two workers were found and taken to hospital. (找到兩名工人並送院)→Two workers were found three hours later and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.(三小意後找到兩名工人並送伊利莎伯醫院)(注意:後一句是前一句的延伸寫法)

4.                       The scene is very small.(現場環境狹小)→The area of the scene is only two metres by three metres. (現場只有兩米乘三米。)(注意:後一句是更具體的描述。)

5.                       One of the workers had never worked on the site before.  He got a phone call saying the job was rush work. (其中一名工人是第一次在該地盤工作,他收到電話,通知他要趕工。)

6.                       One accident is too many.  We must prevent a similar accident from occurring. (意外一次都嫌多,我們必須防止同類事件發生。)

7.                       We should take care of the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work.(對從事工作的人,我們應照顧他們的安全、健康和福利。)

8.                       Any improvement on occupational safety and health conditions start from an efficient risk assessment. (改善職業安全與健康的環境,從高效的風險評估做起。)

9.                       The government should work with professional bodies to conduct research into occupational safety and health matters / to explore ways of improving work security.(政府應與專業機構合作,研究職業安全和健康事宜/求索改善工作安全的方法。)

17.                   Workers exposed to harmful substances has higher cancer incidence (接觸到有害物質的工人,癌症發病率較高。)/ has an increased risk of developing cancer. (較易罹患癌症)(注意:主語不一定只有一個詞,這句用過去分詞片語exposed to harmful substances放在workers之後,主語是一個noun phraseWorkers exposed to harmful substances。這類寫法可以提升構句能力,必須掌握。

18.                   Industrial accidents happen because standard safety precautions are considered by many, even some safety officers, to be mere formalities.  People often have a mentality that “such accident cannot happen to me”.  However, as our experience has shown, it can happen.  (工業意外之所以發生,是因為很多人(甚至一些安全主任)認為安全預防措施只是具文。人們常常有「這種意外不會發生在我身上」的心態。然而,我們的經驗證明,意外可以發生。)

19.                   Industrial accidents can occur in industrial facilities like factories, construction sites, and petrochemical plants, where workers are subject to workplace hazards and the attendant risk of workplace injuries. (工業意外可能在工業設施發生,例如工廠、建築工地和化工廠。在這些地方,工人要承受工場的危險和連帶的工場受傷風險。)
