第一部分 

A firm（（（合伙）商號；商行；專業服務機構））means a company or a partnership（合伙）. 

A business（工商企業）means a company or a partnership. 

Therefore, a firm or a business is not simply a company, as it can be taken to mean a partnership.（所以，不應簡單地說firm或business一定是公司，因為它也可能是合伙。） 

說「多」，可以用

1.      permeate（彌漫）；

2.      be peppered with（遍佈；這裡一些那裡一點）；和

3.      a plethora of（數目龐大的；過多的）。 

Subscribe to something是「認同某事」，那個「某事」的感覺比較遠。例：

We need to stop asking whether or not a student is smart.  What we need to ask is what the student is smart at.

四句話，說在情人節的日與夜、前與後。 

短改寫題（Short Rewriting question）是必考題種。方式很多，一部分已在我對2012 Practice Paper 1A的前四個分析說了，這次談餘下的三題。 

我將最蠱惑的一題先寫，這種陰濕叫「太多資料題」／「太多資料要你先分類才寫題」／「太多資料你全抄就白化時間但分數沒有增加題」。 

想起，關於Paper 2的Part A，我只寫個一篇博談（http://englishwizard.mysinablog.com/index.php?op=ViewArticle&articleId=2468886）。這次多寫一篇。

以下是考評局2012年Practice Paper 2 Part A 的題目、參考範文和思路講解。

For question 1, write about 200 words.

「指涉題」的英文叫reference question。在考評局的Sample Papers和Practice paper都出現過。 

Reference questions在Practice Paper 1 (Part A)出現的比率很高，23條裡有五題，即Questions 2、5、10、12和19。 但是，有些題目加入了「不單要你選也要你寫」的新元素。 

至於舊的元素「古古惑惑」，當然永遠在你身邊跟你不離不棄。這類題種永遠不會直接問你，In ‘Mary is my classmate.  She always do well in exams.’ what does she refer to? 

在2012年的HKDSE也一定有幾條Reference questions。（除非考評局擺明耍無賴。）

我在2011年1月17日寫過這類題目：http://englishwizard.mysinablog.com/index.php?op=ViewArticle&articleId=2838100。這次用practice paper 補充資料。 

考評局的DSE Reading和Writing出題，都有雙拼式的趨勢。 

Writing 的雙拼式可以是「要你寫一封告訴你朋友一個夢」，同時考你writing story和writing letter的能力。 

段對段選填題指「從passage某數段找字填入question的另一段」。英文叫Fill in the blanks with words searched from the passage。

一起讀這段，很快： 

Supply Air經典名曲Making Love Out Of Nothing At All。 

開頭的部分：
1.           用I know帶出很多名詞片語 (noun phrases)，即下文的pink部分，其中how、when、where等是疑問副詞 (interrogative adverb)。
2.         I know還帶出三個noun clauses，即下文light green的部分。 

歌裡很多留白，空間廣闊，由聽者想像。 

唯一可以肯定的，是歌者深愛歌裡的被愛者（love her/him deeply or madly），「它」可以是女生或男生，我愛將「它」假設成女生。 

歌者唱：

最主要的歌詞making love out of nothing at all，最少有四種解釋：
1.           (一個女生)沒有真正的情感卻在給自己營造愛的錯覺；
2.         (一個女生)不需要任何回報、表示或性愛卻能（對另一人）產生濃濃愛意；
3.          (一個女生)沒有愛地和別人做愛（或者，沒有愛地和歌者做愛，歌者察覺，但深深愛着她，情網困擾）；
4.         歌者愛着那個女生，但卻有些處無法認同她或者覺得她不對頭，因為她making love out of nothing at all。（And I'm never gonna make it like you do, (我無法做到像你那樣，)　making love out of nothing at all.） 

以下是一篇參考範文。

以下是一篇debate speech的範文，但不用nuclear power為題了。Nuclear power剛在practice paper出現，相信在exam不會再出吧（雖然並非不可能）。 

這篇debate speech提供：
1.          debate speech的常用句，highlighted in pink。
2.          一些解釋，highlighted in blue，一些其他寫法放在square bracket即 [　]。
3.          debate speech的結構。留意：在第一段先説motion（論題），再說你是support／for或oppose／against，然後說明理由。引入理由的一段和結束的一段比較「百搭」或「罐頭」，請看下文。
4.          可在文中用Today和you以及my/our first/second speaker will look at 等，這是debate speech的元素，令你寫得更似一篇debate speech。 

考評局2012年1月發出English Language practice paper，Part A有23題，其中有三題半是過去罕見的題種，即Q8、Q11b、Q22和Q23。

這些題目要考生發揮passage的內容！你在passage找不到答案！同學仔要將text的idea稍作發揮/延伸或者用常識來想一想然後寫出來，同學仔不可不妨。

這幾條的用詞包括：
1.      Do you agree（Q8）或者explain（Q11），沒有CAPITALIZED亦沒有bold，非常陰濕。
2.      相反，Q23寫明叫你discuss，你以為要自己發揮，但其實只要你在text裡locate information然後大致照抄或rewrite一點。
3.      Q22的答案有一半包含text沒有的idea，另一半則text有。不過，如考生只寫text的idea，應該也有分。（但這種出題和參考答案不太好）
